A road accident involving a trailer and three cars in Subang Jaya last night left 10 dead, including a mother and her eight children.

Based on several reports, the incident happened at the USJ rest area on the Elite Highway (Shah Alam-bound).

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 11.42 pm.

According to a department spokesperson, the accident involved two Proton Wira, a Perodua Axia and a trailer.

In a report by Malaysiakini, the woman, 37, and her eight children were travelling in one of the Proton Wira.

Sinar Harian reports that the children are five boys and 3 girls with ages ranging from 10-months-old to 17-years-old.

The woman’s husband and the father of the children, 50, survived with injuries. The 10th victim was a man driving the other Proton Wira.

The man who drove the Perodua Axia suffered a broken leg while the female passenger had light injuries.

The driver of the trailer and the two children with him are unhurt. All of the victims and bodies were sent to the Shah Alam Hospital.

Netizens blame drivers who speed on the road

Netizens who frequently use the highways pointed out that big vehicles such as lorries and buses often speed and endanger other road users.

Meanwhile, another netizen advised others not to speculate on the cause of the accident and not to be quick to blame the driver of the trailer.
