Back in 2020, telcos in Malaysia began offering free 1GB internet to help the country stay connected. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission had announced that the free internet would be available until the end of the year, but as the pandemic continues to ravage the country, the free internet has been extended into the new year.
Minister of Communications and Multimedia Saifuddin Abdullah announced the extension, citing that the free 1GB internet will be extended until the Jaringan Prihatin programme, announced during Budget 2021, kicks in nationwide within the month of April.
Digi and Maxis have announced that the free internet will be extended until the end of March, while Yoodo and Celcom have extended the programme until the end of February. At the time of writing, U Mobile and Unifi have not announced an extension yet.

Effective 1st July, free 1GB Productivity is available for all day usage from 12:01am – 11:59pm daily until 31 March 2021.

- Postpaid (Voice & Broadband): Dial UMB *238*1*1#
This offer is only available to these Prepaid Rate Plans: Digi New Best v1, Digi New Best v2, Digi Smart Plans, Digi Best 2016, Digi Best 2017, Digi Prepaid LiVE, Digi Monthly Plan 28, Digi Abadi and Digi Home Broadband (Prepaid Broadband).

Celcom
The free 1GB is usable 24 hours a day through MyDeals in the Celcom Life App until 28 February 2021.
The 1GB cannot be used for social media, video streaming, gaming and music streaming.

Yoodo
Users that have at least one line with an active plan on their account will be able to redeem the free 1GB data via the Yoodo app until 28 February.
The free daily data can be used for 24 hours from the time of redemption, except for social media, video streaming, gaming or music streaming.

Maxis
Maxis states that the free daily internet of 1GB is available specifically for education and work productivity tools, as well as general web browsing with the exclusion of social media, video streaming, gaming and music streaming. The programme will now run until 31 March 2021.
This offer is available to all active customers and can be redeemed from 8am-6pm daily through the Maxis app, Hotlink app, Hotlink Postpaid app, and Maxis Business app.
