Escape Penang developer Sim Leisure Group is set to turn KidZania Singapore around and plans to reopen the now closed child-sized city theme park in the first quarter of 2024.

It was reported that Sim Leisure Group had recently acquired KidZania Singapore for about RM380,000.

The Khazanah Nasional Berhad owned KidZania saw the national fund inject RM165.52 million into the project in 2016, according to The Vibes.

After having purchased KidZania Singapore’s non-movable assets in December 2020, Sim Leisure Group recently leased the premises from Sentosa Development Corporation.

In an announcement to the Singapore Exchange, Sim Leisure Group said after the purchase of the non-movable assets, the company were in touch with KidZania in Mexico to secure exclusive licence to operate the KidZania Concept in Singapore.

The soon to be reopened KidZania in Singapore will be run by Kids Edutainment Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sim Leisure Group.

In an article on Little Day Out, Sim Leisure Group founder and chairman Datuk Sim Choo Kheng said he personally loved the KidZania concept created by Xavier Lopez.

Sim described it as awesome and said the opportunity to take over KidZania Singapore was something he never imagined he would be a part of.

I am very confident with our 30-year track record, starting from scratch to become one of the leading attractions businesses in the world, and our time-proven management approach, KidZania Singapore will be a runaway success. This time I will make sure KidZania Singapore is here to stay.

Khazanah And KidZania

Back in 2020, when KidZania Singapore was shut down, much like many other leisure-related businesses around the world due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it went under liquidation, owing about $50 million to Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels (TARH).

TARH is the leisure and tourism branch of Khazanah Nasional and Boustead Holdings Berhad.

The Singapore Business Times had in November 2020 reported that Sim Leisure Group was looking to acquire KidZania Singapore for RM3.8 million.
