Friday prayers at Federal Territories’ (FT) mosques and suraus can now be performed without having to observe physical distancing SOPs as the country is transitioning to the Endemic Phase starting from 1 April.

Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) director Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail said that the matter was consented by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and is in line with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for congregational prayers in mosques and suraus.

Mohd Ajib also said that worshippers of all ages that have completed their Covid-19 vaccination will be allowed to attend the prayer, adding that all Muslims attending the Friday prayers are encouraged to use their own prayer mats.

These places of worship will also be allowed to hold Tarawih prayers as well Qiamullail.

“Breaking fast ceremonies, moreh and sahur are allowed at mosques and suraus, while the food is encouraged to be prepared in packages,” Mohd Ajib said in a statement issued today.

He added that Quran recital activities are allowed to be held at any suitable time in small groups.

Previously, all Muslims attending congregational prayers all mosques and suraus need to adhere to the one-meter physical distancing rule and wear face masks.
