The Education Ministry (MOE) may send students in Sabah who are sitting for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) examinations this year to hostels.
According to Senior Minister (Education) Dr Radzi Jidin, the move was proposed by the parents themselves who want their children to have face-to-face learning sessions with their teachers.
He said that although students who have been living in hostels have been allowed to go home following the implementation of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in Sabah, most parents wanted them to stay put.
The parents believe that hostels were safer and provided a conducive learning environment for their children, especially since they will be soon sitting for their important exams.
Dr Radzi said limited internet access and the lack of devices for online learning was also a factor, especially for students living in rural and remote areas.
However, teachers have done their best by providing modules for students who do not have internet facilities and devices, especially for those sitting for exams to enable them to revise at home.
