The Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZ II) – one of the main hospitals in Kelantan which also facilitates Covid-19 patients – is running low on blood and supplies are only expected to last up to three days.

HRPZ II Director Datuk Dr Selasawati Ghazali explained that an average of 80 to 100 bags of blood is needed every day in order to meet the demand at nine public and three private hospitals across the state.

Because of the Movement Control Order (MCO), hospitals are unable to organize and hold large scale donation drives and are fully dependent on the public to willingly come to hospitals to donate blood.

Kelantanese people urged to donate blood

The Head of HRPZ II Transfusion Medicine Unit Dr Rahimah Abdul Wahab urged the public to donate blood and assured people that standard operating procedures (SOP) are in place to ensure that the process remains safe during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The HRPZ II blood transfusion centre will be open every Sunday to Thursday from 8am to 5pm.

However, those showing symptoms of Covid-19 as well as residents living in red zone areas are not allowed to donate blood.

The public is also required to declare their travel history and if they’ve had any close contact with a Covid-19 patient.

Blood donation centers remain open during MCO

The National Blood Centre (PDN) blood donation facilities in the Klang Vally and across the country will remain open throughout the MCO period.
