In line with the Prime Minister’s announcement yesterday, local telcos are offering their customers free data throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO) period starting 1 April 2020.

According to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), these telecommunications players together have offered a total of RM1 billion to help Malaysians cope with the impact of Covid-19.

The free internet will be available to both prepaid and postpaid customers of Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile, in the form of 1GB of high-speed data per day for free. This data is to be utilised between 8am to 6pm.

We’ve provided links for each telco for you to find more information on their respective offers and how to apply.

In addition to this, the four telcos are also providing free calls to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), the National Operations Management Centre and state health departments.

They have also reportedly committed themselves to invest RM400 million to improve network coverage, capacity and quality, especially in critical areas such as in hospitals, government agencies, enforcement agencies and media centres. MCMC also highlighted that the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan will still continue to improve the country’s digital connectivity.
