Penang’s seasonal fruit sellers, especially those hawking durian, now need a permit to set up shop.
This permit also comes with a whole string of conditions, like…
● no foreigners are allowed to operate the stall
● no plastics to wrap or display the fruits
● stall owners are responsible for the disposal of rubbish
The temporary license fees are also very minimal at about RM1 per day for every 40 square feet and there’s only a one-off payment for canopy fees.
Hopefully this doesn’t affect durian prices!
