22 Malaysian Universities Ranked Among Top 600+ In Asia

In a recent ranking system, 22 Malaysian universities have been recognized as among the top 600+ universities in Asia.

This is a significant achievement for the country’s higher education system, highlighting the quality of education these institutions provide.

Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) has been named the top university in Malaysia and the top private university in ASEAN in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2023.

UTP achieved a historic milestone by jumping 32 spots to rank 63rd, up from 95th place last year.

UTP’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, said the achievement demonstrates UTP’s commitment to academic excellence, research and innovation, and creating an exceptional student experience.

He added that UTP remains committed to developing future leaders, driving innovation, promoting sustainability, and contributing to developing highly skilled graduates ready to make a significant impact locally and globally.

We are proud of UTP’s significant improvement in THE Asia University Rankings 2023. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our faculty, staff, and students.

As part of its global sustainability aspirations, UTP will continue to support Petronas’ transition to Net Zero Carbon Emissions (NZCE) by 2050.

UTP’s achievement in THE Asia University Rankings 2023 reflects its commitment to academic excellence and innovation.

The university’s continued efforts to develop highly skilled graduates will contribute significantly to Malaysia’s and ASEAN’s economic growth and development.

The 2023 rankings include 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions, making them the largest and most diverse university rankings.

Malaysia’s Performance And Diversity In Asia University Rankings

According to the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2023, Malaysia has 22 universities in the rankings.

Among the top universities in Malaysia are:

  • Universiti Teknologi Petronas
  • University of Malaya
  • Universiti Utara Malaysia
  • Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia
  • Universiti Putra Malaysia
  • Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
  • Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris
  • Universiti Sains Malaysia
  • Universiti Malaysia Pahang
  • Sunway University
  • Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN)
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) is ranked the lowest among Malaysian universities that made it to the list.

It’s important to note that rankings can vary depending on the methodology used by each ranking system.

The rankings also feature universities ranked for the first time, with many of them from Asia and Europe.

The top universities in the Asia University Rankings 2023 by Times Higher Education (THE) are Tsinghua University (China), Peking University (China) and the National University of Singapore (Singapore).
