In a disturbing incident in Genting Highlands, Malaysia, a 20-year-old local woman was brutally sexually assaulted by a foreign tourist.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 5:20 am on Monday (12 June), when the woman was walking to a hotel room rented by a friend.
A stranger approached her and asked about the hotel’s equipment but demanded she sleep with him.
When the woman refused, the man dragged her into his hotel room and sexually assaulted her.
The victim reported the incident to the police at 9 am the same day, and the police acted swiftly to arrest the perpetrator within four hours of receiving the complaint.
Bentong Police Chief Calls For Greater Awareness
The accused is a 41-year-old foreign man visiting Malaysia as a tourist.
The police have detained him for seven days.
They are investigating the case under Section 376 of the Penal Code (rape), which carries a maximum sentence of imprisonment for 30 years and caning not exceeding 10 strokes.
Bentong OCPD Superintendant Zaiham Mohd Kahar has issued a statement calling women to be vigilant in and out of hotels and wary of strangers.
The tragic incident highlights the need for greater awareness and vigilance to prevent such heinous crimes from occurring in the future.
