A young man recently attempted to buy a RM94 cake using a fake Touch ‘n Go (TnG) eWallet receipt.

The shop later discovered the fraud and posted the CCTV recording on social media.

The shop also urged the young man to pay in full; otherwise, a police report would be made.

The incident happened at a coffee shop in a mall in Johor Bahru at noon on 12 April.

The post went viral and was hotly talked about by netizens.

In an interview with Sin Chew Daily, the shop owner said he wanted to give the young man a chance to repent.

He has to show up and pay within 48 hours.

According to CCTV videos posted on Facebook, the young man was seen making ‘fake moves’ when paying.

He pretended to scan the QR code of the store but did not turn on the camera function.

From the cashier’s point of view, the man seemed to swipe on the screen, which looked like he was entering the password and amount.

However, when the shop owner checked the CCTV footage, it was discovered that the man had shown a fake TnG payment page.

He immediately contacted the head office and asked the technical team to help check the CCTV in the store.

He said the company was taken aback when it checked the CCTV and saw the customer editing the receipt of the Touch-to-Go e-wallet very quickly.

On Thursday evening (13 April), the shop posted that the young man had owned up and paid the RM94.

The shop received a payment of RM100 through TnG.

To avoid similar incidents, the shop owner has asked the staff to ensure the payment has been posted before letting the customer leave.

At the same time, the staff had been told to ask the customer to use another channel or platform to pay again if the initial payment did not go through.

Customers will be asked to leave their phone numbers, and the shop will refund them if there are double payments.
