After netizens shunned government campaigns to raise money for flood victims, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun has hit back saying not to follow the “Do Not Donate Here” trend that’s been brewing online.

She was quoted by Astro Awani saying that the priority now is the disaster victims and Rina assured that the donations received would be channeled to the target groups.

What we implement (the disaster fund), the donation we can give back to the people. In the current situation, there is no need for such a ‘hashtag’. No matter who, anyone can help as long as the goal is achieved and the recipients benefit, that’s what’s important.

Rina said that she was attending the Fourth Bersatu Annual General Assembly at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Center (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur, prior to the visit and added that she rushed immediately after President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s speech.

During the rally, I received many messages about the flood-affected areas and I thought I had to go down to see the situation. At that time I only had time to change my baju kurung into pants and shirt, I did not have time to change my shoes in the chaos. What is important is my presence in the place to see their welfare taken care of and what else their needs that I can help.
