Sarawak To Reopen Barbershops & Hair Salons Next Week

Sarawakians will soon be allowed a visit to their local barbers and hairdressers to get some seemingly much-needed tender love and care as the state government will be allowing barbershops and hair salons to reopen across the state starting June 9.
Despite the current ‘haircut ban’ imposed throughout the country, the Sarawak state government will be letting barbershops and hair salons operate, following a strict standard operating procedure (SOP) that will be made public, soon.
As part of the Covid-19 guidelines, citizens will only be allowed to acquire hair-cutting services while other services like facials and massages are still prohibited. (We’re not sure if you’re allowed to get a shave too, but we’ll get back to you on that one…)

Previously, the federal government said that it would be formulating its own ‘hairy-guidelines’ to allow barbershops and hair salons to reopen as well as prohibiting individuals and businesses from making housecalls during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period.
Since the start of the lockdowns stakeholders in the hair and beauty industry have voiced their concerns with many refusing to reopen businesses until proper guidelines are in place to ensure public safety, as it’s rather impossible to maintain hygiene and social distancing practices in the business.

However, members of the beauty community including the Malaysian Hairdressing Association (MHA), Malaysian Bumiputera Barber Association (MBBA), Malaysian Indian Hair Dressing Salon Owners Association (MINDAS), and others had since begged the government to allow businesses to reopen as people’s livelihoods were at stake.
