Malaysia’s newly identified Covid-19 “construction cluster” is growing.
The Health Ministry (MOH) recently revealed the emergence of a new Covid-19 infection outbreak at several construction sites in the Klang Valley.
At least 12 positive cases were detected within a group of foreign workers at a site in Setia Alam, Selangor.
According to the Director-General of Health Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, authorities were alerted to the cluster after the group had gone through mandatory Covid-19 screenings.
Apparently those infected were all Bangladeshi nationals that lived together with 18 other people.
Authorities are conducting contact tracing and investigations to determine the source of the outbreak and curb its spread.
Workers at sites in Kuala Lumpur and Cheras, mostly consisting of foreign and migrant employees were previously identified positive for the viral infection.
These areas are now closed off and placed into quarantine under a special Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
