To help the police to curb the spread of COVID-19 during the second half of the Movement Control Order (MCO), the military have deployed 7,000 of their personnel starting April 1.
Around 5,000 to 6,000 were tasked around the country March 18 to March 31 but the number has increased due to the stricter rules enforced in the second phase.
Chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) General Tan Sri Ahmad Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi said troops have also helped to enforce the enhanced MCO in several areas such as Simpang Renggam, Johor; Sungai Lui, Selangor and Menara City One in Kuala Lumpur by mobilising 20 personnel at one time.
He also added that the army is also actively assisting and monitoring the delivery of essential goods to remote areas such as certain parts of Sabah and Sarawak from last Sunday until this Friday.
Besides providing assistance to the police at roadblocks throughout the MCO, around 5,000 personnel are assigned to maintain security and order at the country’s borders.
