The one respite from staying indoors all day 24/7 during the Movement Control Order (MCO) is the liberty to binge on all the shows and movies that we never had time for.

Among the most well known streaming service that facilitates this addiction is Netflix, but it seems that tragedy has befallen when they announced a reduction on their video quality in Malaysia from today (31st March) onwards.

According to, Netflix made this move to provide some relief on the stress put on their network infrastructure in Malaysia due to the increase in traffic during the MCO. The streaming service also says it’s to make sure that their subscribers can still Netflix & chill, even with the surge in traffic.

So for 30 days beginning midnight 31st March, the streaming service will reduce 25% of its traffic in Malaysia that will affect the video quality. However, Netflix insists that their subscribers can still continue watching the shows at the resolution they paid for, except that it’s a slightly lower quality.

Speaking of what you paid for, Netflix’s reduction offering only applies to their streaming quality and not their fee.
