Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) member of Parliament Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin’s recent video showing support for former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin after he was charged in court garnered controversy.

This was because the Bersatu Srikandi vice chief used the song Hasrat by Amir Jahari in the politically-themed video without the artist’s permission.

Amir claimed that the song was used without his knowledge and that he doesn’t want his songs to be used for political purposes. His former manager, Joe Lee, asked Mas Ermieyati on Twitter to remove the video as well.

Mas Ermieyati’s response didn’t improve the situation because to some, it came off as arrogant.

Speaking at a Srikandi event in Cheras last night, she said she was merely appreciating the song and urged Amir to issue a reminder to forbid any political party from using his songs. She said she would perhaps use Siti Nurhaliza’s songs or nasyid songs in the future.

She claimed that Siti Nurhaliza doesn’t care whether her songs would be used for social, welfare or political reasons.

In her apology speech, Mas Ermieyati alleged that Amir refused to let her use his song because she’s an Opposition MP.

She also claimed that the video was uploaded by a 19-year-old who loved the song.

Joe criticised Mas Ermieyati for her unprofessional response and said there was no need for an aggressive reply.

He reminded her not to treat Amir like a child and not to belittle the intellectual rights of artists.

Netizens called her out for her unprofessional behaviour and for disrespecting local artists.

They also advised her to stop attacking Amir and dragging the matter further.

After about 7 hours, Mas Ermieyati removed the video from her Tiktok account.

On Twitter, she posted a vague tweet which many assumed was still related to the song fiasco.

Meanwhile, rapper Altimet, possibly in jest, told Mas Ermieyati to just use his song.

Muhyiddin, who is Bersatu president, was charged with four counts of abuse of power in relation to the Jana Wibawa economic stimulus programme for Bumiputera businesses.

He also claimed trial for two counts of money laundering totalling RM195 million.
