Malaysian Waterski Ace Aaliyah Yoong Wins Four Gold In South Korea

Her brothers, Aiden and Adam, won a silver and three bronze medals in the boys’ category.

National water skiing ace Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah bagged four gold medals at the IWWF Asian Waterski Championships in Chuncheon, South Korea on Saturday (13 August).

According to IWWF, the 19-year-old athlete won her first gold medal on Friday after she scored 7,440 points in the women’s open tricks event.

She continued her impressive performance in the women’s open jump on Saturday and produced a leap of 40.6 metres in the preliminaries. She earned another gold medal in the final round with a 37.2m leap.

NST reported that Aaliyah won her third gold in the women’s slalom with marks of 0.00/55kmh/13m and made a clean sweep to take the overall title with a total of 3000.00 points for her fourth gold on the same day.

Malaysian Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (MWWF) head coach Hanifah Yoong said Malaysia had a total tally of five gold, a silver and three bronze medals.

Aaliyah won four gold medals while her brother Adam Yoong won a gold medal in the under-17 (U17) boys’ tricks.

Aiden Yoong earned a silver medal in the U17 boys’ overall and three bronzes in U17’s boys’ tricks, slalom, and Adam’s U17 Jump.

Adam Yoong also set a new personal best with a distance of 27.0m (in the jump), beating his previous record of 15.9m at the 2019 Asian Championships in Bangkok.

His 16-year-old brother Aiden Yoong also set a new personal best by jumping 23.9m, beating his previous record of 20.1m.

Hanifah, who’s also Aaliyah’s father, congratulated the Malaysian team.
