Covid Cases And Deaths On The Rise Again

The number of Covid-19 patients admitted into health facilities increased 10% in the 26th Epidemiological Week.

There has been an increase in the number of new Covid-19 infections for the 26th Epidemiological Week (ME 26), from 26 June to 2 July 2, with the number of new cases recorded inside the country stands at 16,694 cases.

In a statement issued today, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the total number of new cases recorded in ME 26 saw an increment of 6.1 % compared to the 15,739 cases recorded in the previous week (ME 25).

He also added that the number of death cases recorded in ME 26 stands at 26, which doubled from the 13 cases recorded the week before.

“The admission of Covid-19 patients into health facilities (public hospitals and Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRCs)) per 100,000 population, has increased by 10% in ME 26 compared to the ME 25,” the statement reads.

According to Noor Hisham, there were now 10 active Covid-19 clusters in the country.

While there may be an increase in infection in ME 26 compared to ME 25, there has also been an increase in the number of recovered cases as well.

“The number of recovered cases increased by 1.5 per cent from 14,078 cases (ME 25) to 14,293 cases,” he said.

Meanwhile, the average daily active cases during ME 26 rose 3,4% to 28,956b cases compared to the previous week.

Noor Hisham said that there has been a total of 4,571,355 cumulative Covid-19 cases recorded in the country from ME 4 (25 January 2020) to ME 26 with 4,595 200 cases of recovery recorded.
