“I’m Not Resigning” Says Finance Minister

Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said that he had communicated yesterday that he couldn’t attend this morning’s Dewan Rakyat’s session.
In his Facebook posting, Tengku Zafrul said that there was no intention on his part not to fulfill his ministerial obligation in the Dewan Rakyat.
“On the issue of absence from Parliament during the MQT (Ministers’ Question Time session, I would like to clarify that there were some personal emergencies that had to be taken care of this morning, and this matter was already communicated yesterday,” wrote Tengku Zafrul.
He was clarifying Utusan Malaysia’s report that he had resigned as he was not present to table the Supplementary Supply Bill 2021 (2022) in Parliament this morning.
The finance minister was supposed to answer questions relating to 1MDB debts and also tabled four government bills for the first reading earlier today.
Due to his absence, the questions were answered by the Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Idris Ahmad while the bills were tabled by the Deputy Finance Minister I Datuk Indera Mohd Shahar Abdullah.
He clarified that it was planned all along for Mohd Shahar to table the bills and added that it is not unprecedented for a minister to be asked to read out the answers of a fellow minister during Parliament session.
