Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will table the 2023 Budget in Parliament today.

The tabling will begin at 4pm.

Dubbed the “Malaysia Madani” budget, Anwar said he had informed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of the tabling during a pre-Cabinet meeting audience yesterday.

Anwar had previously said the 2023 Budget will take into account the current economic challenges, while driving the country’s growth and attracting investments, as reported by Bernama.

The previous government had tabled the 2023 Budget in October last year amidst talks that the parliament would be dissolved to pave way for the 15th General Election (GE15).

However the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government tabled the budget anyway but the implementation was halted after PN lost in the November polls.

Pakatan Harapan (PH), in leading the unity government announced that it would be tabling a new Budget this year.

The tabling of this Budget is a historical one for Anwar as he returns to present the nation’s expenditure plans after 26 years.

The last time Anwar tabled the Budget was in 1997 when he held the post of Finance Minister in the Barisan Nasional (BN) government under the fourth Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He has had quite a political journey since then which began after he was sacked from Umno and BN in 1998.
