Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate Husna Shafieqa Husni Hanafi (18) might have to sit for her exams on 2 March while lying down on the bed.

While that seems like a relaxing way to take the exams, Husna has to do so because she’s suffering from nerve damage.

The Form 5 student of SMK Kubang Bemban suddenly developed nerve damage in December last year. The healthy teen suddenly couldn’t sit and stand at all.

According to Utusan, Suriana Mat Hussin (45), the mother of three kids, admitted that her heart broke to see her eldest daughter, who got 5As in the trial exams, still working hard to study for her SPM exams while lying on the bed.

Suriana said her daughter first complained that she couldn’t get up from the bed like normal. Husna’s condition deteriorated until she had to be carried to the bathroom one day.

Her family immediately brought her to Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) Kubang Kerian and the doctor confirmed Husna was suffering from nerve damage.

After receiving the diagnosis, Husna couldn’t join her classmates in school anymore. She has to continue with online learning from home with full support from her teachers and classmates.

Every day I pray that Husna will recover because she’s the family’s hope and a good example to her younger siblings.

Husna’s mother, Suriana Mat Hussin told Utusan

Fortunately, the family qualifies for monetary help from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and gets RM450 per month.

Husna said she was about to give up hope when she heard the diagnosis but was motivated again after getting support from her family and teachers.

Despite her current condition, she’s determined to do well in her exams so she could change her family’s future.

Those who want to help Husna and her family can make a donation to a Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) account belonging to Suriana Mat Hussin with the account number 03501-41-00005768-4.
