Netizens were shocked to find out that a young student was served rice with only ‘kuah’ (gravy) under the additional food programme (RMT) after the picture of the meal went viral.

In response, Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said an investigation will be carried out into the school canteen operator and the school.

According to New Straits Times, the investigation led by representatives from the Education Ministry found that the food was not prepared for RMT recipients in the school.

Radzi also said RMT meals were prepared by canteen operators for children to only eat in schools.

He thanked everyone for voicing their concerns regarding the issue as well.

Radzi also promised that the ministry will continue to improve the RMT programme.

Since 2021, the ministry has ensured that RMT recipients are served milk each schooling day instead of only twice a week.

During a debate in Dewan Rakyat last month, former Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik urged the government to increase the RMT rates for schools from RM2.50 per student to RM4.

This is to ensure canteen operators have enough funds to serve proper quality meals amid the rising prices of goods.
