“Do you have any questions for me?” asks the your potential employer at the job interview.

If you’re among the 3.3% of Malaysians, or 10% of youth, who are unemployed, this is a question you might be dreading.

Recruiters say you should have a few questions ready to ask because it shows that you are interested, engaged and were prepared for this interview.

But if you don’t know what to ask, here are some suggested questions:

Ask about the job

What you will do each day and who you work with will factor heavily into how happy you are at work. So, Glassdoor suggests asking more about your role.

ASK: What do the day-to-day responsibilities of the role look like? Who will I be working most closely with? What do you see as the most challenging aspect of this job?

Make sure you know your responsibilities so you can meet them.

Ask about training, professional development & career progression

To ensure your career always moves forward and lets you climb up the ladder of career success, always think beyond the current job. HR Professionals at The Guardian say you should also consider things like skill development and training.

ASK: What training will I receive? Are there any advanced training programs available for employees? Where have successful employees previously in this position progressed to?

Ask about the interviewer

You want to ask the interviewer a bit about themselves, their time at the company and what they think. The experts of Monster Worldwide Inc explain that this will reveal something about the culture, values, and attitude of the company, and whether this is a place you could be happy working at.

ASK: What do you enjoy most about working here? Can you give me some examples of the most and least desirable aspects of the company’s culture? Where would the company like to be in five years?

The people interviewing you work in the same company too.
