After a strong positive response from the public for their concept high-tech N95 mask at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year, Razer decided to make Project Hazel a reality and announced that it will begin to ship the masks in the early fourth quarter of this year (between September and December) .

Razer is best known for its brightly lit black and green gaming peripherals, but they have never been to shy from stepping out of their comfort zone.

Back in 2018, Razer partnered with Berjaya and chose Malaysia as the first market for their digital wallet, Razer Pay.

Razer’s Project Hazel had gone through some changes since it was first shown off as a concept. Some cosmetic changes includes RGB lighting around the filter pods, and an internal light so that the wearer’s facial expressions can be seen through the anti-fog plastic shield.

There’s even some audio processing to make your voice not sound like you’re talking into a plastic container.

To add more credibility to the effectiveness of the mask, Razer took what they have learned from turning one of their manufacturing facilities into a surgical masks production facility and applied it to Project Hazel.

The mask uses silicone around the edges for an airtight seal, adjustable earloops for comfort, replaceable N95 filters, and you can also adjust the amount of airflow. Plus, it comes in multiple sizes.

Basically it is a transparent plastic half face shield with a silicone gasket and ear loops, and light up powered air filters. But, it sure looks cool in the pre-rendered images.

First public appearance back in 2021

Razer’s Project Hazel was first announced as a concept in January at Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

Not a lot was known about the mask except that it looks very futuristic with a translucent window and light-up rings surrounding its rechargeable active ventilation and auto sterilisation pods.

It also comes in a charger case that has a built-in UV steriliser.

Back then Razer, told The Verge that they were working with a team of medical experts and scientists to develop the mask and that they are looking to achieve the N95 certification.

If things go as planned, by the time this mask is available, most Malaysians will already have gotten vaccinated, but masks could still be mandatory. For that stunning cyberpunk look, there’s nothing else in the market quite like Razer’s Project Hazel.

Razer Project Hazel is available exclusively on Razer’s website. You can tell them that you are interested in getting one here and even try one on using an Instagram filter.
