UMNO will not be a component party of Perikatan Nasional says UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today.
Instead, Zahid said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had, at noon yesterday in parliament, voiced the intention of BERSATU to join Muafakat Nasional.
This intention of BERSATU will be discussed with PAS in detail. The central committee of Muafakat Nasional previously had decided for UMNO and PAS to be given the priority in strengthening Muafakat Nasional. I will leave it to central committee of Muafakat Nasional to consider the intention of BERSATU and whether it can strengthen Muafakat Nasional for the people and the country.

Furthermore, Ahmad Zahid said he will discuss with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and the Muafakat Nasional central committee on this matter, possibly after Hari Raya Aidiladha.
“The decision of UMNO not to be a component Perikatan Nasional was decided by the UMNO Supreme Council on 24 July and that decision took into consideration that Muafakat Nasional charter and MOU had been signed.”
“We are not going to participate in the formation of Perikatan Nasional. Our decision is not to be a component of Perikatan Nasional if Perikatan Nasional were to be registered,” he said.
However, he said Umno and BN MPs and Assembleymen were still lending their support to Perikatan Nasional in order to form the Federal Government and certain State Governments.

TRP's Head of Editorial, Hamzah was formerly a hard-news journalist who reported on politics, did investigative work, and occasionally went undercover. He now spends his days sitting at a desk, checking grammar and fielding calls from PR companies, which is totally fine and fulfilling. For sure. He's also married with kids now so his wife and mother said he can't do risky things anymore.
