Man Charged With Killing Three Kittens, Placed In Hospital Bahagia For Observation

An unemployed man was charged today at the Selayang Sessions Court of killing three cats, by drowning each animal in three separate washing machines at a laundromat in Kepong last Sunday.

Muhammad Najwan Zulkefli, 24, pleaded not guilty and applied to be tried after the charge was read before Judge Syafeera Mohd Said, starting at 9.30am.

He was charged with brutally harming the three kittens leading to unncessary suffering.

The offense was allegedly committed at the Atlantis self-service laundry premises, Block 3, Desa Satu Apartment, Desa Aman Puri, Kepong in Gombak, from 5 to 6.30 am on July 12.

Muhammad Najwan was charged under Subsection 29 (1) (e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 (Act 772) and is punishable under Section 29 (1) of the same act.

If convicted, he can be fined not less than RM20,000 or not more than RM100,000 or imprisoned not more than three years or both.

Meanwhile, the Prosecuting Officer of the Selangor Veterinary Services Department (JPV), N Nageswara asked the court to send the accused to Bahagia Ulu Kinta Hospital, Perak for observation and examination as he is suspected of being mentally unstable.

The court then allowed the man to be placed in the hospital for further examination for a month and his case mention date is set for August 13.

He made headlines recently after a CCTV video was widely shared on social media of a man killing three young kittens by placing each feline in three separate washing machines at a self-service laundromat.
