In the Short-term Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) stimulus package worth RM35 billion announced today by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, aid worth RM200 million is provided to working parents.
To support working parents during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period, the government will subsidise childcare expenses.
An RM800 eVoucher for mobile childcare services will be provided per household and is valid from now until the end of August 2020
Income tax relief for childcare services expenses is also increased to RM3,000 for assessment years 2020 and 2021.
Aside from that, the government will provide a one-off RM5,000 grant to childcare centres registered with the Women, Family & Community Development Ministry.
This is to provide the financial means necessary for these centres to comply with the new healthcare standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The incentive is also to train new practitioners for child nursing and early education courses under the Women, Family & Community Development Ministry.
These incentives will begin from June 2020 onwards and are expected to cover approximately 8,000 childcare centres, 5,000 households and estimated 10,000 new early education practitioners.
