Graduation ceremonies are certainly among the many highlights for every parent and child. The ceremony not only marks how far the child has come but also indicates that the parents’ efforts have paid off.

For one local family, however, their daughter’s graduation ceremony was a bittersweet experience.

Adek@Che Ahmad and Siti Yuana Janamin had to fight tears when they were accepting their late daughter’s posthumous degree scroll, which she earned before her recent tragic passing.

The couple stood on behalf of their late daughter, Asniza to receive her Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) degree at the Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) graduation ceremony.

Siti Yuana highlighted how late Asniza had eagerly wanted to attend the ceremony. She had prepared everything – from the attire, plans, and even a group photo with her friends.

“But who are we to defy fate? Allah SWT loved her more. I accept it and am proud to have had a responsible, caring, and resilient daughter,” said the 44-year-old mother.

Asniza’s resilience was indeed what encouraged the family to attend the graduation ceremony on her behalf.

“I used to tell her that she needed to be strong to succeed, as she always complained about being busy with tasks or sharing her problems.

“So, today, it is that strength that drove me to attend this convocation ceremony.”

During her time as a student, Asniza was a well-rounded student. While she did dedicate her time to her studies, Asniza was also active in her extracurricular activities.

Asniza, for example, actively participated in the Reserve Officer Training Unit (PALAPES) and was commissioned as a junior officer.

Her hard work and dedication as a student will forever be remembered by her family.

“Even though she’s no longer with us, our family is immensely proud of her achievements, which will remain a cherished memory for life,” concluded her mother.

What happened to Asniza?

On 3 October, the engineering graduate was sadly hit by a lorry along Jalan Tanjung Laboh in Banang Jaya. Asniza was riding her motorcycle from her home to her workplace when the tragedy happened as reported by News Straits Times.

Unfortunately, due to the lorry’s impact, she died at the scene from suffering severe head injuries.

Asniza’s passing was certainly unfortunate. We send our condolences to her family and our congratulations on her graduation.
