Opposition parties and independent MPs aligned to them have issued a joint statement saying that they’re not supporting Tan Sri Mahiaddin Md Yasin to continue as the Prime Minister and demand that Parliament reconvene no later than 9 August, 2021.
This is based on the Standing Orders 11(3) to discuss, debate and propose a vote of no confidence against Mahiaddin
The statement included the signatures of leaders of various parties and one Independent MP including:
- Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim – Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR),
- Mohamad Sabu – Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH),
- Lim Guan Eng – Democratic Action Party (DAP),
- Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal – Parti Warisan Sabah (WARISAN)
- Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad – Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (PEJUANG)
- Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau – Pertubuhan Kinabalu Progresi Bersatu (UPKO)
- Baru Bian – Parti Sarawak Bersatu
- Syed Saddiq – Parti Ikatan Demokratik Malaysia (MUDA)
- Dr Maszlee Malik (Independent)
It’s stated that the opposition thinks it’s unreasonable for the government to delay the process in Parliament.
This, the statement said, is after taking into account the current Covid-19 situation which has affected the lives and livelihoods of many Malaysians and solving the instability issue within the government.
Therefore, we are of the view that the motion of confidence must be tabled, discussed and decided now and at the same time end the issue of the legitimacy of the Prime Minister.

He said that a confidence motion will be tabled in Parliament to solidify the legitimacy of his position and government but it will be done in September.
