The Enforcement Division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade And Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) found that the retail prices of standard chicken has seen a downward trend since July 1.
What you need to know: The monitoring of prices of chicken began when the KPDNHEP received complaints about the rising prices of chicken in June. Since then, eight investigation papers have been opened on poultry traders suspected of committing profiteering. Since the investigation began, chicken prices have reduced in July.
Who said what: KPDNHEP enforcement director Datuk Iskandar Halim Sulaiman noted that the prices for both live farm chicken and standard chicken have seen reductions in the first two weeks of July.
Why this matters: Unscrupulous traders and retailers who raise chicken prices to seek an unfair profit pose a threat to the stability of the supply of basic goods, which affects families and even businesses. Hence, the KPDNHEP stepped in to investigate the incident under the Price Control and Anti-Profiterring Act (AKHAP) 2011 to ensure the prices of chicken remain constant.
