Kind Pahang man opens pay-what-you-want restaurant to help poor & needy M’sians
Did you know that Malaysians, especially those within the B40 community, are starving and malnourished?
To help combat this crisis, the government set up a Foodbank initiative earlier this year targeted to help feed university students in the public and private sector who could not afford to eat.
This restaurant in Pahang is also doing their part to help the needy!
Restoran Dapur Infaq Ummah at the Kompleks Dagangan Indera Mahkota in Kuantan allows their customers to eat anything they like, take as much as they want, and pay whatever they can.
Which means that if the customer has no money to pay, they can essentially just eat there for free.
The owner of the restaurant, Badrul Jamili Kamaruddin said that the restaurant is run this way to ensure that those who are poor and needy can still eat properly.
The restaurant, which has been operating for three months, serves naan, mutton curry, chicken curry, nasi lemak, sticky rice, vermicelli and a variety of local kuihs to students and Asnaf groups in the area who just drop any amount of money they can afford into a money box located at the cashier.
Badrul admits that his restaurant does not make much profit but insists that it is a necessary step to help the community. He isn’t worried about losing money, saying that his core purpose to pursue the business was to do good deeds and gain pahala/rewards from Allah.
In fact, the restaurant uses the profit collected in the money box to cover expenses for the restaurant and donates the rest to the needy.
