RM11mil for Palestinian education a moral obligation, says Dr Mahathir
About RM11.47 million has been raised by both private and local universities to fund Palestinians to live here in Malaysia to further their studies.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad received mock cheques yesterday from 12 local universities at the Ninth Grand Iftar by the Palestinian Cultural Organisation Malaysia (PCOM) in Putrajaya yesterday.
The Malaysian Education Ministry, through the PCOM, decided to welcome Palestinians to continue their studies in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies here.
Among the 12 established universities from all around Malaysia, include Management Science University (MSU), MAHSA University, Sunway University, University Teknologi Petronas (UTP) and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
Dr Mahathir feels that this act is part of a moral obligation of our country towards Palestinians who have been oppressed for decades.
