In an update today, the Kuala Lumpur High Court has fined Muhammad Nagahswaran Muniandy, the former husband of Loh Siew Hong, RM20,000 for contempt of court.

As reported by MalayMail, the High Court judge Evrol Mariette Peters ruled that should he fail to pay the sum within 14 days, he will be liable to 14 days’ imprisonment.

The judge also ordered Muhammad Nagahswaran to pay his former wife Loh RM6,000 in costs.

In March 2022, Loh filed a judicial review application to challenge the children’s unilateral conversion where she named the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council, the state’s mualaf registrar, Perlis mufti Asri Zainul Abidin and the state government as co-respondents.

Loh filed for divorce in December 2019, and the divorce was finalised in September 2021.

Muhammad Nagahswaran was also reported as being well aware of what he had done.

The Vibes reported that Judge Peters noted that he had also failed to comply with the court order that the petitioner was awarded sole guardianship custody of care and control of the children.

It had also deprived the children of their mother after being passed around from one person to another. The petitioner was left in limbo.

Additionally, according to several news reports, the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) had also sought to intervene in the custody order granted to Loh.

According to the Vibes, lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla who was representing MAIPs told the court that they had submitted an application for the judge to recuse herself from hearing MAIPs’ application to amend the custody order awarded to Loh.

Loh was represented by lawyer J Gunamalar while Muhammad Nagahswaran is represented by lawyer M Vhimal.

The high court has set to deliver its decision on May 11.
