A 16-year-old schoolboy was tragically killed in a freak accident after he was trapped in an abandoned public toilet that caught on fire in an incident at Bandar Puncak Alam Phase 3 yesterday.

The victim, Muhammad Damin Mikhail Kansol, was hanging out with his two close friends and they were playing mobile phone games prior to the incident, reported Harian Metro.

Ironically, the fire was started by the victim’s two friends – a 15 and a 16-year-old schoolboy – as a prank.

“The victim was said to be sleeping on the sofa in front of the toilet door before his friend lit a fire under the sofa as a joke,” Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis was quoted as saying.

He said the situation escalated after the fire grew bigger, causing thick smoke to fill the toilet.

Norazam said that the victim’s friend rushed out of the toilet structure while the victim, half-asleep after his friends woke him up, ran inside the abandoned toilet.

He added that the department was alerted at 2.35pm before 19 personnel and four fire trucks from the Bestari Jaya Fire and Rescue Station were rushed to the scene.

“As soon as we arrived, we found the body of a 16-year-old boy charred in the abandoned toilet,” he said, adding that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, Sungai Buloh district police chief, Supt Shafa’aton Abu Bakar said that based on the initial investigation, there was no object that could prevent the victim from leaving the toilet.

According to another Harian Metro report, the abandoned toilet was doorless.

It was also learned that the victim and his two friends who are inseparable, had only become close quite recently.

The three of them went to school together at  Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Puncak Alam 3.
