23YO Malaysian Man Sentenced To 12 Weeks Jail in Singapore For Threatening To Post Lewd Photos & Videos Of Ex-Girlfriend

The suspect began threatening his former girlfriend when she asked him to repay the money she lent him to repay his debts.

A 23-year-old man was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail in Singapore after he pleaded guilty to threatening his ex-girlfriend to distribute intimate photos and videos of her which were taken without consent.

The lewd materials were taken during the couple’s three-year relationship which ended on January 2021.

The suspect cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the identity of his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend, who is also Malaysian, reported Malay Mail.

He began to threaten his former girlfriend after she asked him to repay the money that she had lent her, which she claims amounted to RM40,730.

After he ignored her messages, the victim posted an Instagram Story, which automatically disappears after 24 hours, about him owing her money and tagged his Instagram username.

The suspect retaliated by sending her the indecent materials that he had kept, which among others taken while his former girlfriend is changing clothes and in the shower. He also said that he will not continue to pay his debt to the victim.

“He also told the victim that she had willingly lent him money, and whether he wanted to return the money was his business. He told her not to bother him just because he owed her money,” Deputy Public Prosecutor Emily Zhao told the court during the trial.

According to the report, the suspect deleted the offensive material a few days later without uploading anything.

He was nabbed by the police on 26 May after the victim lodged a police report at Clementi Neighbourhood Police Centre. The police also found one semi-nude image of the victim on his mobile phone.
