Netizens were shocked and angry after seeing pictures of a red Perodua Myvi that crashed into several tombstones in a cemetery plot yesterday (17 February).

The incident allegedly took place at Tanah Perkuburan Islam Forest Heights in Senawang around 10am.

According to Berita Harian, the car was driven by a 60-year-old woman who passed out while visiting her late husband’s grave.

Her son, Syafiq Sidek, has taken to social media to apologise to everyone who was affected and to explain what happened.

His mother has hypoglycaemia due to diabetes and she fainted at the wheel due to low blood sugar. She was fasting that day too.

She accidentally stepped on the car accelerator after blacking out while doing a u-turn. Fortunately, she was unhurt but she caused minor damage on two cemetery plots.

Syafiq said his mother is still in anguish and traumatised when she lost her beloved husband last August to Covid-19.

I hope everyone will stop spreading this issue. Everyone in the family is trying our best to support our mother.

Syafiq Sidek wrote on Facebook.

He also promised to help the other families fix the damaged tombstones in the cemetery.

According to Berita Harian, Syafiq has forgiven the people who criticised his mother on Facebook because they didn’t know the actual story.

Syafiq thanked the media and the police for reporting the true events. He added that those who spread misinformation and slander about his mother will be investigated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
