It seems that the government is dropping hints that the country’s interstate and international borders would be reopening soon.
According to reports, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is targeting to allow denizens to travel freely within the country and overseas in the month of December 2021, once the country has achieved a 90% vaccination rate for adults.
The PM explained that this could happen even sooner and implied that travellers would no longer be banned from crossing state borders.
He also said that once the country is ready, international travellers would also no longer need to apply for the MyTravelPass (MTP) system to go abroad.
Throughout the Covid-19 crisis, it has only allowed certain people – like those going for work, study or to be with their spouses overseas – to travel outside Malaysia.
However, it is mentioned that overseas travellers would still need to be quarantined accordingly based on Covid-19 health protocols during their travels.
The latest figures shared by Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin show that Malaysia has vaccinated nearly 88% of our adult population.
Malaysians will be able to freely travel overseas without applying for MTP once we reach 90% adult vax target. We are at 87.6%. Not long to go. Reunite with your friends & family abroad. Quarantine requirements stay (for now) when you return. https://t.co/I1taO2wRw1

The minister also mentioned that the majority of Malaysia’s youths have also been vaccinated at least once.
With schools #ReopeningSafely today, 90% of 17 year olds & 88% of 16 year olds in @KemPendidikan schools have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Let’s get our children back to school safely. #LindungDiriLindungSemua
