The silver screens in Malaysia have stayed silent during the pandemic as cinemas must adhere to strict SOPs, delayed movies, and a much smaller audience turn-out even during months that they could operate.

Some cinemas like MBO Cinemas have even closed half their outlets and may possibly be liquidated.

However, others have done their best to diversify and get through these tough times.

GSC started selling T-shirts, face masks, and other merchandise for a short stint a few months ago, all which came in surprisingly high demand.

Now, they have started to rent out their empty halls to those who have always wished to have a giant screen to themselves.

Gamers can invite their friends over for a marathon gaming session on a giant screen, complete with cinema popcorn and snacks.

They are not alone, as TGV has also launched a similar offer with an additional chance to win a PS4.

It may seem like a desperate move, but with the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), halved capacity SOPs in place, and delayed movies, cinemas will be taking a giant loss this year.

Right now, they are merely doing what they can to get through this difficult time.
