Muar MP Syed Saddiq suggested today that the government should have the courage to dicuss the benefits of medical marijuana instead of shying away from the topic due to ‘sensibilities’.
During the debate on the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) in parliament today, he said that Malaysia needs to begin discussions now in a bid to not lose out on in the medical marijuana and hemp industry, which is currently worth about RM60 billion and is expected to exceed RM400 billion within a period of 4 years.
We must discuss this and we do not want to be left behind again when other countries are moving ahead of us, and we, again, only implement it 10 to 20 years from now when it is already too late.

He says that there are more than 40 countries globally which have already approved hemp and medical marijuana, with our neighbour Thailand being the latest to join.
He also noted that there are already plenty of scientific studies available on hemp and medical marijuana.
We cannot, only because it is sensitive, be leaving this topic aside, while studies based on data and science have clearly shown that, for example, the effects of the alcohol and tobacco industries are far more damaging than this, all because there will never be the moral courage to discuss this with facts and figures.

Actually, Malaysia is growing hemp as an agricultural product, but it is being studied by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and this KL-based company called MyUS Hemphouse on a private agreement.
