Earlier this week, social media was abuzz with images of Bella, a child with Down Syndrome, who had suffered abuse at the hands of her caretakers. In these pictures, she was seen with serious injuries all over her face and body.

Now, the lady who exposed these images has been slapped with a Letter of Demand by Bella’s caretakers and owner of Rumah Bonda, Siti Bainun Ahd Razali.

Zurianty Sudin, a well-known philanthropist who volunteers in various charities and offers help to the needy, was the person who found and took photo evidence of Bella at Rumah Bonda.

Later on, she was the one who made the police report and publicised the images of Bella’s injuries to raise awareness of the abuse.

Good deeds go punished

While #JusticeForBella trended and shocked Malaysians, Zurianty and another charity worker Mona Din found themselves facing a lawsuit from Siti Bainun for rescuing Bella from Rumah Bonda.

At the behest of their lawyer, Zurianty and Mona Din will be giving their full cooperation to the police as they continue their investigations.

A child, saved

After being taken away from Rumah Bonda, Bella was brought to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment. She ended up testing positive for Covid-19 as well.

Zurianty suspects that her Covid-19 case was never reported to the Health Ministry because her injuries were too severe to be hidden, which would have certainly raised questions if healthcare personnel had seen it.

However, despite her harrowing ordeal, Bella is recovering well in the hospital from both her injuries as well as Covid-19.

Additionally, the welfare home that Bella was housed in was later found to not have been registered with the Social Welfare Department (JKM). It has since ceased operations, with the remaining children offered a choice to return to their original families or to another welfare home.
