7 Indonesian Restaurants In The Klang Valley That You Have To Try

Hungry for Indonesian food ? I know I am. It’s been too long since traveling there was convenient, or even likely. Fear not, here are some of my favourite choices to satiate your appetite with food from across the narrow sea (or straits, as it were.).
Sari Ratu
From the bergedil to the dendeng. I know people who call the gulai ayam and sambal goreng “Food from heaven”. The first of our nasi padang selection on this list, Sari Ratu is a popular chain restaurant in Indonesia and has become a popular local favourite for Indonesian cuisine.

Waroeng Penyet
Well-known for their Ayam Penyet (hence the name of the place), also highly recommended is the Sate Ayam; or if your going for something a little more soupy, definitely try a bowl of the Bakso. A meat ball soup served with noodles.

Restoran Sederhana
My family’s favourite selection and also another popular nasi padang restaurant chain. Started in 1972, they’re fairly ubiquitous in Indonesia. The beef rendang and the sup buntut are my favourites. Also an Indonesian staple: Teh Botol.

The Majapahit
The food takes inspiration mainly from Indonesia and Thailand, with influences from Malaysia and Vietnam too, but they’ve appointed a chef with extensive cooking experience for more than 25 years in Indonesian cuisine.
The menu boasts a few other scintillating temptations, including a Southeast Asian four-variety satay platter of Balinese fish satay, Vietnamese sugarcane prawns, Malaysian chicken satay and Indonesian beef satay, as well Padang-style slow-cooked beef, Sundanese grilled chicken and Javanese nasi liwet.

Warung Leko
Warung Leko has a good selection of dishes, from Sup Buntut to Ayam Penyet, but the favourite among my friends are their fried beef ribs dishes: Iga Hot Plate and Iga Penyet. Those are their signature dishes and a must-try.

Natrabu
One of my mother’s favourites. Positioning themselves at the higher end of things, Natrabu markets themselves as Minang fine dining. On top of the great food, it has a great ambience with wonderfully well-dressed staff.
Once upon a time, Natrabu had locations in KL Sentral and Kampung Baru, but those closed some years ago. It’s good to have them returning to our fair city in a comfortable setting.

Dancing Fish
This restaurant is on the classier end. Strategically located in Bangsar, it is known for their fantastic spread, particularly the famous Dancing Fish dish, which lends its name to the restaurant.
The fish is cut and fried in such a way to get a graceful dance-like appearance, promises to be a meal you’re not likely to forget.

Naughty Nuri’s (non-halal)
A fairly popular chain in the region, I first discovered Naughty Nuri’s when I was in Bali. The BBQ Ribs and Nasi Goreng are some of their more popular and noteworthy dishes.
