Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is reportedly expected to announce Malaysia’s next Prime Minister after meeting with the Malay Rulers today.
Reuters reported that the conference will start at 2:30pm.
The race for who will be the next Prime Minister came about after Prime Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Yassin announced his resignation on live television – ending the rule of Parikatan Nasional which lasted for around 17 months.
There have been two candidates for the position but reports suggest that former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob might be in the running now with the support of 114 MPs. The other likely candidate is PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Recently, these MPs were called to Istana Negara to declare their support to the Former Deputy Prime Minister and it included prominent names such as Malaysia’s sixth Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
