The developer of the controversial 15-storey resort in Fraser’s Hill has been ordered to stop works after residents and non-governmental organisations raised their concerns over the environmental impact of the high-rise project.
What you need to know: The developer has been instructed to revise the building design and consult the Department of Environment (DoE) on the project. They will require a green light from all relevant agencies before they can proceed. So far, the company has already stopped the ongoing works at the project site.
Why it matters: Last month, a colonial-style bungalow and an abandoned resort were demolished. Residents and the Persatuan Alam dan Warisan Bukit Fraser (PAWBF) were shocked to see development begin and claims that the demolition and development works were carried out without the submission of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report to the DoE.
According to PAWBF, the project could have detrimental impacts on Fraser’s Hill only lake and rich biodiversity.
Who said what: Raub district officer Datuk Mohammad Shahid Ismail notes that the project has currently been suspended until the developer submits a new design that has been approved by all relevant agencies.
