Yes, we all know that Valentine’s Day is the day of love and affection. But whether you’re single or not, who says that Valentine’s Day is limited to only your romantic partner?

This idea that romantic love supercedes all else is rather archaic, because love comes in many forms. In fact, the Greek had 7 different types of love, ranging from eros (romantic love) to philia (friendship) to storge (family love) to even philautia (self-love)!

So why do we only celebrate one kind of love?

Galentine’s Day

Leslie Knope from hit sitcom Parks and Recreation created Galentine’s Day on 13 February as a celebration of friendship and platonic love between her close female friends.

The “Valentine’s equivalent” to celebrate friends was quickly adopted all over the world, which only proves that we humans actually love loving our friends just as much as we love loving our romantic partners!
