Hot & Dry Spell To Last Until September

The recent sweltering heat and dry days are expected to continue until September as part of the change of monsoon seasons, says FMT.
Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) notes that this is a result of transitioning into the southwest monsoon.
As of yet, no heatwaves have been detected in the country. No area has recorded a streak of 35°C for more than three days in a row, and highs are not expected to hit more than 40°C.

States located on the west coast and inland Peninsular Malaysia, the west coast of Sabah, and the western and central regions of Sarawak should be prepared for some weather changes such as downpours, strong winds, and high humidity.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)’s department of earth sciences and environment head and professor of climatology, Dr Fredolin Tangang also notes that Malaysia is currently experiencing something known as the Madden-Julian Oscillation (OSJ) and El Nino.
This natural phenomenon causes climate variability and can result in heatwaves.
The MJO phenomenon can elevate temperatures by 2-3°C, causing some places to hover just under the 40°C mark. MJO is relatively common too and occurs once every couple of months, which is why sometimes we have extraordinarily hot days.
During this time, it’s imperitive to stay hydrated and out of the blazing sun– especially for outdoor pets as well!
