Kids aged 12 and under will receive their Pfizer BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine starting in 2022, according to the Health Ministry (KKM).

Berita Harian quoted the Ministry who mentioned that currently, only the Pfizer vaccine is available for use by children under the age of 12 and is awaiting regulatory approval from the European Union and the United States.

KKM also said that Pfizer is expected to submit data related to the registration of vaccine use for children under 12 by the end of this year to the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) for evaluation and approval of registration.

They added that the government is currently in the process of procuring Pfizer BioNTech vaccine for immunisation use for children as the formulation differs from the adult population and is subject to approval from both the NPRA and Drug Control Authority (PBKD).

It is expected that a total of 5.9 million children will be vaccinated involving an estimated quantity requirement of 11.8 million doses.

The statement was as a response to a question from Subang MP Wong Chen who wanted to know whether the KKM intends to give vaccine injections to children aged five to 12 years and when do they expect it to be implemented.
