According to MalayMail, an Ipsos Survey says that Malaysians in 2020 found doctors to be the most trusted professionals in the country.
Doctors overtook teachers, who were most trusted back in 2019.
In 2020, doctors garnered 68% trust, with teachers coming in second at 65%, then scientists at 57%, armed forces at 52%, and judges at 49%.
The change could likely be due to the pandemic, when the country turned to our healthcare professionals for guidance on how to keep safe from the virus.
More Malaysians have been interacting with the healthcare system than ever before, and it’s reflected in doctors surpassing teachers as the most trusted profession.

This pattern of trust is reflected globally as well, with doctors (64%), scientists (61%), and teachers (55%) coming in the top three through the international survey.
In Malaysia, professions such as bankers, television news readers, lawyers, and police are trusted more than their global counterparts.
However, in Malaysia, the least trusted profession are politicians. (Are we surprised?)
The bottom of the list includes politicians (19%), government ministers (24%), advertising executives (26%), and clergy (29%).
This is true globally as well, with politicians, government ministers, and advertising executives making up the bottom of the international list.
Similar to health care professionals, politicians and government ministers have been visible faces throughout the pandemic, without reaping the same benefits in terms of trust in their profession.
