Be wary of “worms” (scalpers) who will take advantage and charge astronomical fees from those whose loved ones succumb to Covid-19, says Port Klang Assemblyman Azmizam Zaman Huri.
After receiving numerous complaints from the public, the Port Klang DUN was quoted saying that these agents would charge up to RM2,000 on non-existant funeral expenses.
They act nice at first but will charge you later
Azmizam mentioned that these ‘worms’ come wearing kopiah and tudung and can be seen around the forensic department.
They act nice as though they are there to help you so they can dupe the next-of-kin who don’t want to wait for a long time to bury the body. Once they identify you, they will approach and offer their services to expedite the process of getting the body, cleaning it and burial. Some will pretend to be nice and say no need to pay, pay what you feel is right and so on.

This changes after the burial has been done, as he said that victims will be given receipts and bills for the funeral.
Azmizam said that Muslim families do not have to pay for the burial and funeral as that is covered by the Selangor Religious Department.
The worms prey on the desperate
According to Azmizam, the price of a bottle of tayammum dust, for example, is only RM15, but the victims have been allegedly charged up to RM700.
In fact, the body bags used to replace the shrouds and PPE (Personal Protective Clothing) are provided by the hospital for free.

As for the sanitation of the remains, this is done by the Health Ministry (MOH).
He explained that every time a Covid-19 patient dies, the heirs’ emotions will become very disturbed and unstable because they are not allowed to go near the corpse, based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) from the MOH and the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM).
This is the time when the Covid-19 mortuary cartel took the opportunity to court the next of kin while in hospital because in the minds of the grieving heirs, they just want to ensure that the remains of their loved ones are buried immediately.
