Malaysia has reached the half a million barrier as the 507,050 jabs were administered on 22 July.

To date, a total of 16,024,916 jabs have been recorded, with 10,920,862 Malaysians having received their first those while 5,104,05 individuals have taken both doses.

Selangor + Wilayah Persekutuan had the highest number of shots administered with 4,434,069 first doses and 1,469,248 second doses followed by Sarawak (1,617,938 first dose, 1,053,000 second dose) and Johor (789,971 first dose, 390,690 second dose).

Faster than the US

The Star reported that Malaysia now has a better vaccination rate compared to other countries including the United States.

Taking the stats from Oxford University’s Our World in Data, the daily vaccination rate per 100 population reached a high of 1.27 on July 19 in Malaysia – higher than the United States, which peaked at 1.01 vaccine doses per 100 people on 13 April.

Same cases, fewer deaths due to vaccinations

Reports have surfaced saying that vaccines are capable in reducing the severity of Covid-19 with Bloomberg comparing the United Kingdom and Indonesia which recorded around 50,000 cases in a single day.

Despite having similar number of cases, Indonesia has a daily death rate of around 1,000 while the UK only has 50.

The publication noted that vaccination has a big influence in the drastic difference in fatalities, with more than half of the UK population (55%) already vaccinated while in Indonesia, only 6% of their population have been given the jab.

Walk-ins for those living in Klang Valley

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry tweeted that starting 1 August, walk-ins vaccinations will be available for those living in Klang Valley who have not yet received a jab.

In the same tweet, the Ministry also mentioned that they will reveal the list of locations soon.
